Korea CNC Machining – 80mm Thickness & 5,300mm Length Precision Machining

Case Study: One-Piece Machining of 5,300mm Long and 80mm Thick Components Without Deformation
In the past, this component was manufactured by a previous supplier using a combined process of welding and machining. While it appeared acceptable on the surface, residual stress and welding deformation accumulated during actual equipment operation, resulting in dimensional deviations and shortened maintenance cycles.
For long-axis structures over 5 meters, even the slightest deformation can drastically degrade straightness and vibration characteristics, making it difficult to maintain a stable production process.
Upon receiving this project, Belinker Manufacturing decided to eliminate the root cause by switching the entire process to one-piece machining.
Conducted deformation risk analysis during the initial design review
Applied dedicated jigs and clamping methods optimized for long workpieces
Repeated intermediate dimensional measurements and corrections during machining to prevent deformation
As a result, we successfully machined the component—measuring 5,300mm in length and 80mm in thickness—without any deformation, ensuring stability and precision.
From Roughing to Finishing – Precision Without Deformation
In long-axis machining, the most critical factor is controlling the heat and vibration generated during the process. Belinker minimized thermal deformation in the roughing stage by ensuring ample cooling and continuous supply of cutting fluid.
During the finishing stage, the cutter’s wear condition was monitored frequently to maintain consistent surface quality. In addition, machining speeds were adjusted for each section, and intermediate correction steps were carried out to prevent bending in the long workpiece.
Finishing After Roughing – Achieving Precision Without Deformation
Machining a long-axis workpiece measuring 80mm in thickness and 5,500mm in length is not simply about producing a large part—it is a high-level process that must ensure precision without deformation and deliver consistent quality. During machining, Belinker Manufacturing continuously corrected any areas susceptible to deformation caused by cutter heat, ensuring dimensional stability throughout the process.
Leveraging extensive experience in large-scale machining and expertise in processing special steels, Belinker Manufacturing provides customized solutions that meet even the most demanding requirements of its clients.
High Customer Satisfaction
“In the past, equipment maintenance parts needed re-machining or replacement just a few months after installation due to deformation. For components over 5 meters in length, even slight deformation would cause vibration issues.
The part manufactured by Belinker Manufacturing this time was completed through one-piece machining without welding, resulting in virtually no dimensional deviation. During the initial alignment process after installation, no adjustments were necessary. It has been in continuous use since, with no signs of deformation or abnormal wear, and precision has been consistently maintained.
In addition, despite the urgent delivery schedule, the timeline was met for the most part, which was very satisfying.”
Project Completion and Delivery
The 5,300mm-long, 80mm-thick component was machined and delivered without deformation. It has been running continuously in the customer’s equipment with no issues to date, as of this posting.
Belinker Manufacturing does more than simply produce parts—it delivers solutions that consider the stability of the customer’s equipment operation and the efficiency of maintenance.
