If your purchasing team is evaluating a Korean CNC machining supplier, the drawing is only one part of the decision. You also need to establish what the quote includes, how quality will be documented, and how the order will reach your U.S. facility.

BELINKER already works with U.S. customers in the EV and battery industries. For buyers considering South Korea as an additional manufacturing source, the following steps provide a practical framework for the first order and the orders that follow.

1. Send an RFQ That Suppliers Can Quote Consistently

Start with the current drawing revision and available CAD files. Add the specified material, quantity, finishing, and required delivery date.

State whether the order is for a prototype, an initial production batch, or an established repeat requirement. If you want quantity-based pricing, list realistic order quantities separately.

Include the U.S. delivery ZIP code and any inspection or documentation requirements. Ask suppliers to identify assumptions and exclusions so you can compare quotations on the same basis.

2. Confirm the Manufacturing and Inspection Scope

Before issuing a purchase order, resolve technical questions and record any approved changes.

Confirm which drawing revision governs the order, what finishing is included, and which inspection records must accompany the shipment. If you require first-article approval, define the approval point and whether the remaining production quantity must wait.

BELINKER’s manufacturing service brings machining and related processes into a coordinated supply scope. For your order, specify the required deliverables so the quotation addresses the finished component and its documentation.

3. Compare Total Landed Cost

The quoted part price is one part of the purchase cost. For an overseas order, review freight, insurance where applicable, customs-related charges, duties, and delivery to your receiving location.

South Korea’s trade relationship with the United States includes the KORUS Free Trade Agreement. Eligibility for preferential treatment depends on requirements such as the applicable rules of origin. Preferential treatment does not, by itself, establish the total duties payable on every shipment. (U.S. Department of Commerce: KORUS)

Have the applicable tariff treatment checked against the product classification, origin, and import date. Confirm which costs are included in the supplier’s quote and which remain the buyer’s responsibility.

When comparing Korean and Chinese suppliers, use the same specifications and delivery assumptions. Any claimed savings should follow from that comparison.

4. Plan Backward From the Required Arrival Date

Clarify whether a quoted lead time ends at production completion, shipment, or arrival at your facility.

Allow for drawing approval, material procurement, machining, outside processing, inspection, and transportation. If samples must be approved before production continues, include the review period.

Discuss packaging as well. Identify surfaces that must be protected and agree on part identification, revision labels, and how multiple items will be separated during transit.

5. Establish the Process for Repeat Orders

Once the initial order is approved, retain the agreed specifications and documentation requirements.

For future releases, confirm drawing revisions, quantities, pricing validity, and delivery schedules. Keep forecast demand separate from committed orders, and define how changes will be acknowledged.

Also agree on the contact and review process if an incoming part does not meet the approved requirements.
